3DEROX - Design Services

Introduction

We'd love to sit down and discuss your ideas with you. We can do this one-on-one either in person, via internet meeting, phone call, email, text, whatever is most convenient for you. If you feel a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) is necessary, we're happy to sign one. We'll want you to bring your existing prototypes, drawings, ideas, whatever you have that can help convey what you're trying to do. In this phase, we're just trying to get an idea for the scope of the project.
We're happy to work in any industry. We've got experience in musical instruments, fishing tackle, automotive trim and parts, gaming, household goods, statues, you name it. Don't worry about a part being too big, or too small, or too strange. Even if you just want to bounce ideas off of us, we'd love to hear from you and help however we can.

Starting Design

After getting an idea of the scope of your project, we should be able to determine if we're a good fit to serve your needs. If not, no problem! We'll do what we can to recommend a solution. If yes, great! We'll start on the design. We primarily utilize Fusion 360 for designs (but also have experience with AutoCAD, Blender, and 3ds Max). Depending on the scale, this can be a quick process, take several hours, or multiple days.
We'll give you an idea of the expected time it will take to realize the design, and nothing is done without your approval. For most simple, small items, this often fits comfortably within an hour. More complex parts or products, with multiple revisions, will increase the time. Projects as large as the guitar pieces we've done for New Sound Acoustics are multiple days of work. We're happy to work with you on the pricing if this is a particularly large scale project, or you're working with a tight budget.

Prototyping & Revising

Once a 3D drawing of the part or product is complete, we can move into the Prototyping phase. It's possible you won't want to do this at all, and that's okay! Having drawings complete can be enough to start the patenting process, or pursue outside manufacture. If you're looking for physical prototypes, however, we can 3D Print them. We've got access to a dozen different 3D Printers, ranging up to print beds over 12" in length, with the capability of printing in a variety of different materials - from PLA to Carbon Fiber.
Prototyping naturally blends into the process of revising the design. As parts are physically printed, issues are often found - perhaps a design idea is just impossible to manufacture efficiently, or there are new problems discovered that weren't considered. That's okay! Designing is an iterative process. We're happy to make small revisions to designs as needed at no additional charge. Significant changes will be discussed and dealt with on a case-by-case basis, and will generally be billed at the hourly design rate of $40/hr.

Next Steps

Once we complete a drawing or design and receive payment, we turn over the files, and they are solely owned by you at that point. This means that you'll walk away with your model in STEP or STL format for printing or CNC, along with the Fusion 360 Archive (or .blend, or whatever the model was completed in) for the project. Any prototypes that we've printed are yours as well, and we're happy to print as many or as few as you'd like, for the cost of the materials. What comes next depends on your desired scale, and ambition. If this is a part that you're hoping to resell, you can take these drawings and use them to pursue a patent or larger scale manufacturing. We have several contacts we can refer.
It's also possible that you just needed a part for your car, or something in the house - in which case you're done, and we thank you for your faith in us and your business. There's also a middle ground whereperhaps this is a part that you wish to resell, but you don't want to pursue the costs of Injection Molding or other mass production, and we'd love to talk with you about the possibility of selling 3D Printed versions. Whatever the case may be, we're glad you got here with us.
